FridayFocus: Interview with Sophie Jones

In this FridayFocus we spoke to Sophie Jones, a flight attendant and blogger with a passion for good food, travel and fitness!

1)   Who are you, what do you do, and where do you come from?

My name is Sophie, I am a flight attendant based out of Heathrow! I live in Gloucestershire.

2)   Who’s your fitness inspiration?

I find Amanda Bisk to be a huge inspiration and role model. As a previous Australian Pole Vaulter now turned Yoga teacher and Athletics coach she showcases amazing strength and agility. Her workouts are challenging, with mix of plyometric training, gymnastics and yoga. She has an amazing physique and is always smiling!

3)   What’s your go-to exercise?

Without a doubt my go to exercise is a burpee! With so many variations, you can get as creative as you like and you’re always guaranteed fat burning results in very little time and no equipment!

4)   What’s your favourite pre and post workout fuel? (Food you eat before/after working out etc.)

I love a banana topped with peanut butter; not only delicious these two combined make the perfect pre and post workout fuel with its slow carbs and good balance of fats and protein.

5)   What’s your favourite part about being a flight attendant?

The travel opportunities it gives me, I love finding like-minded people wherever I go. I often try to research a class or activity I’ve never tried before, or finding an active way to see the sights and meet the locals. I love to find a new way to workout and find new inspiration, which my job enables me to do so easily.

6)   What will we find you doing when you’re not working out?

If I’m not working out or flying at 30,000 feet I will either be riding my horse or trying out new recipes that I find along my way. Or researching into my next trip!

7)   Any fitness/life goals for 2017?

To continue to become stronger and fitter, as well as setting up something to help other Flight Attendants to stay on track with their fitness and health. As always, to travel to a few more new countries!

8)   Best piece of health/fitness advice?

Try out different work outs to see what you enjoy the most, if you actually look forward to working out then chances are you won’t skip any, which will get results faster and you closer to your goals. Make exercise and eating well enjoyable and social, it soon it will become the norm. Rather than thinking “I’m eating healthy this week” – learn to cook delicious healthy food that you can share with your friends and family every day, so it doesn’t become a chore or unsocial.

9)   Favourite people to follow online (please include links!)

@amandabisk for all things fitness, @tashoakley for the beaches, travel and bikini inspiration, @Renskroes for delicious healthy food ideas.

10) What would you be doing if you weren’t a flight attendant?

I would probably be working with horses still or setting up as personal      trainer or yoga instructor. I would always be doing something physical, a desk job just isn’t for me!

11) Have you always been into health and fitness?

Not at all! I used to hate P.E at school, especially swimming. The only thing I liked was playing netball and riding my horse after school. It wasn’t until my 20’s when I started running to get fitter for riding that I really got into it started to take good care of myself.
