In this week’s WednesdayWorkout we’ve decided to focus on the world’s most comical superhero, Ryan Reynolds, ahead of the release of his most recent film Assassin’s Bodyguard.
Reynolds is renowned for his physique and high fitness levels, which is how he landed such huge roles in films such as Deadpool and Green Lantern.

His training regime consists of a number of different exercises, targeting multiple muscle groups and in particular the core, making it a great workout for your abs.
Here is a taste of what Reynolds’ regime consists of.
Swiss Ball crunches – This workout targets the core muscles in particular, however it also works the transverse abdominis. When the movement is performed properly the muscles that stabilize the hips and lower back are also worked.
Wood chops on cable – The wood chop works primarily your abdominals and exterior obliques, however it also works your shoulders, back, glutes and hips, making it an excellent workout for stabilising your core.
Flat Bench – The primary muscles worked in a bench press are the triceps and pectorals, but it also works anterior deltoids, traps & back as secondary muscles.
Incline Bench – Whether you want to get a bigger or stronger chest, doing the incline bench will help you reach your goals faster. It works your clavicular head, something that is ignored during a flat press.
Bench Body Bar twists – Bench body bar twists are an excellent exercise for working your abdominal muscles.
Decline Bench sit-ups – Decline bench sit-ups are one of the best exercises for working your abs, and are great for developing the line running through the centre of your abs.
Hanging leg lifts – Hanging leg lifts work your abs as well as your lower back muscles and hip flexors. They’re a simple exercise that can be extremely effective. To make your body work harder, try pausing at the top of the leg lift and slowly bring your legs down.
Walking lunges – walking lunges have a number of benefits including improved balance, better functionality, symmetrical toning, boosts hip flexibility, toning of the gluteal muscles and improved core stability. This makes it one of the best movements for working different muscle groups at once.

Ryan Reynolds’ workout is quite simple, so most people will be able to follow the regime!
